Project:  Large Windshield Wiper System

Problem Statement:  The existing wiper systems on the mining shovels are not sufficient at wiping the windshield with enough pressure to effectively clean the windshield.

Scope:  Design a new wiper system that can be bolted to existing shovels.  The wiper system should have speed control and provide enough pressure to sufficiently wipe the windshield of debris.

Specification:  System must have the following:

• Wiper system has adjustable wipe limits
• Sensor for positioning wiper
• Bronze bushing for low maintenance and high durability
• Grease points for quarterly servicing
• Control – 6 speed dial mounted in cab
• Power options are 110 V, Single Phase or 480V, Three Phase
• Variable length wiper arms (4 Different Lengths)
• 32” and 40” wiper blades

Project:  Confined Space Aluminum Ladder

Scope:  Design a robust light weight ladder that can fit within a 20” space with a platform at 64” from the ground.  The ladder should be able to be moved easily and have a means to lock it from rolling.

Specification:  System must have the following:

• Aluminum tubing should be 6061-T6
• 500 lb capacity casters
• Fixed casters at the back of the ladder
• Swivel casters at the front of the ladder
• Locking casters at the front of the ladder
• Railing should be 36” high with a knee bar at the top platform

Project:  Service Platform Concept

Scope:  Design a portable service platform that can be moved into place with a forklift and that fits around Haul Truck tires for servicing the vehicle.  The platform must be at least 120” above ground and have hand and knee railing in accordance with the Mining Act standards.

Specification:  System must have the following:

• All structural steel construction
• 40” high hand railing with knee rail
• 6” high toe kick
• Integrated work bench
• Stair case for safe access to platform
