AUTOMATION PROJECTS

Project:  Fully Automated System for Scanning Objects

Scope: Design a PLC system that automatically and consistently scans an object at the click of a button.  System must rotate a platform 360 degrees and tilt the platform 45 degrees.

Specification: System must have the following:

  • Platform with silk screened control point targets
  • Continuous 360 degree rotation (with no need to unwind)
  • Single click operation to initiate the scanning process
  • Mobile system with casters for ease of storage, positioning and setup
  • Power input – 110 V, 15 A
  • Repeatable positioning of platform to +/- 0.002” on rotation and +/- 0.5 degrees on tilt
  • Platform must be axially adjustable with a means to lock platform in place

Project:  Fully Automated Mini Rotate & Tilt Platform for 3D Capture

Scope:  Design a platform that continuously rotates 360 degrees & can tilt up to 30 degrees.  The system must have a mounting means for objects.  The system must interface with a PC via PLC (Programmable Logic Controller).  The system must be portable and must fit into a air travel certified case.

Specification:  System must have the following:

  • Interface with a PC via PLC
  • Platform with silk screened control point targets
  • Programmable in order to optimize scan position and speed of scanning
  • Continuous 360 degree rotation (with no need to unwind)
  • Single click operation to initiate the scanning process
  • Portable desktop system with levelers
  • Power input – 110 V, 15 A
  • Repeatable positioning of platform to +/- 0.002” on rotation and +/- 0.5 degrees on tilt
  • System must have a travel case and be built rugged enough to handle air transport

Project:  Calibration System for 3D Scanning Camera

Scope:  Design a calibration system that automatically moves a 3D camera system to exact positions along and via a linear motion rail.  The process must be position repeatable to +/- 0.002”.  The calibration system must have a black chart with white targets on one end and a flat white surface on the other end.  Additionally, an external projector must be integrated into the system to project light patterns for the 3D camera to utilize during calibration.

Specification:  System must have the following:

  • All aluminum construction
  • Very precise leveling of the system
  • System must use a Techno-Isel Linear Motion rail 3m in length
  • PLC Control via serial cable
  • Black chart must have matrix of white dots machined into surface and filled with a flat white resin
  • Black chart to have a flatness of +/- 0.002”
  • White chart must be matte white
  • White chart to have a flatness of +/- 0.002”
  • Power requirement is 110 V, 15 A
  • Repeatable positioning of platform to +/- 0.002”
  • Camera mount must allow for 180 degree of rotation for scanning each chart
